"I really don't want to go to Sunday school tomorrow," Sarah told her grandpa. "I don't know anybody there. Can't I just stay home?"

"I don't want to go, either," announced Brendon, Sarah's little brother.

"Me, neither." Scott, the youngest of the three siblings spoke up.

"We'll all go," said Grandpa firmly, "but right now I have the dogs hooked up to the sled-and it's your turn for a ride, Sarah."

"All right!" exclaimed Sarah. Dogsled rides were a special treat they enjoyed at Grandpa's house, and Sarah eagerly followed him outdoors.

"Oh, Grandpa, you're using Kodiak on the team today," Sarah said as she looked at the dogs. "When we take him, the other dogs don't run as well!" She sighed loudly and sat down on the sled. Why does Grandpa want to take Kodiak? she wondered. He'll probably decide to stop and dig at something. Then the other dogs will stop, too, and their harness lines will get all tangled.

Grandpa hopped on the runners. "Let's go!" he shouted. They glided down the driveway and out onto the snow-packed road. Sarah clapped her mittened hands with excitement as they raced to the top of the hill.

Just then Kodiak spotted a branch sticking out of the snow. He pulled hard toward the side and stopped. For a minute, the other dogs tried to go on, but soon they all stopped. Just like Sarah feared, they got tangled up in each other's lines. Grandpa got off the sled to straighten them out.

"I knew this would happen! Why did we have to use Kodiak?" asked Sarah.

"Well, I need to train him-he needs the practice," Grandpa replied. As he worked, he added, "You should be patient with him. After all, the two of you are kind of alike."

"What do you mean?" asked Sarah, staring at Grandpa in surprise.

"Kodiak sets a bad example for the other dogs, and just this morning, you set a bad example for your brothers," explained Grandpa. "When you grumble about going to Sunday school, they don't want to go, either." He got back onto the sled runners. "Kodiak will learn," he added. "I hope you will, too."

The retreat started on monday 21st sept at 10am. We prepared and cooked all our meals, not even one was from the stalls.... but it sure to a toll on the helpers, especially the breakfasts... preparation was at 3am...wakakaka.....

This time, we concentrate on Psalm 1 and 23 and boy oh boy, the children were amazing!!! They were able to memorise both psalms. Praise the
Lord.

We started with team-building: Building a shelter to fit 3 persons. The children were very helpful. The leaders are new.

Lifung's team: Structure collapsed because there was no foundation for the shelter. It could not protect the children from rain or wind or earthquake. However the children were obedient and worked as directed by the leader.
Larry and Daltons team: The leaders worked with the children , but there was two who were taking things easy.. they were spotted reading the newspaper instead of helping...Their structure protected them from rain and wind but collapsed when asked to remove their hands.

Josh's team: Could see that he was in-charged and though the children were given different jobs to complete, they were very united. Their shelter stood firm in all the 3 tests!!! BRAVO!!

LOOK!! WHAT A MESS!!!!

Thanks to helpful girls like Mee Hee and Eu Ting who turned the kitchenette spotless. I am sure their moms would be proud of them!!!

Aunty Bee Gin showed all how to make beautiful sushi and the children had a wonderful time making their own lunch...pity though the rice was not enough but children being children ..they left nothing to waste.

BBQ nite was great with aunty Lucy doing the korean beef, the chicken wings, young sweet corn, sweet potatoes, and crayfish..

Retreats are so amazing ... God ALWAYS reveals new talents...always... as far as I can see there will definitely be a new Praise and Worship Band for the youth..

And aspiring vocalists too... (Shirley and Esther) Ying Sze take note

It was worth every minute of our sleepless nights and i was KO-ed and on the floor by 1.30pm 23/09 ...yer i really don't know what kind of impression (==) it'd make to the parents,..hehe i'd no idea..

The Evangelism retreat started off Ps Law greeting the newcomers.

The first kick-off was a team-building activity.. building twin towers out of straws. Observe the photos and decide for yourself who should be the winner. All the teams did a remarkable job, sharing the work and building the towers together.

They were so creative and excited. Praise the Lord for all these children. 19 of them registered for this retreat and they were so full of anticipation. There is no disciplinary problem and all of us (leaders and children) had a good and fruitful time together.

Each giving their support and encouragement as they worked on their towers. At such a tender age of 11 and 12, God's grace is already evident in their lives. We had 2 brothers who are from unchurched family and they too enjoyed every minute of time spent.

Praise the Lord for bringing these children into His Kingdom. On the last night, we had a session of "knowing your Salvation" and all the 19 children responded to the message. All of them gave their lives to Jesus. GOD IS GOOD!!!

Tada!!! Behold the twin towers of GMC SS Retreat. Which one feeds the requirement: I believe the photos tell the answer.... haha

Yum yum... no words can describe the feeling as they bit into the buns... look at their faces...

The children were attentive throughout all the retreat, obedient and encouraging.

Saturday was also Ronald's birthday. The cake was huge!!!

We had another round of Evangelism in action and we had a wonderful time. Everyone slept late that night. No photos because everything was done in the darkness of the night.

The Sunday School is organising a retreat especially for the Primary 5&6 children. It is a 2n1d event. Participants will be taught on how to use the WORDLESS BOOK and the John 3:16 Bridge Illustration to share the Gospel with their friends. Indirectly they will be assured of their own salvation too.

Team building activities and an outdoor excursion to City Fan will definitely build and strengthen friendship amongst the participants.

aduh... forgive auntie for not updating this blog for like ages..... How are you? Like the new class you are in?

Let's thank the Lord for a good year in 2008. How much He has blessed each and every one of us in the sunday school... let's watch the slides and give thanks for each of the activity, event and the precious lessons we learn from each one of them.

Christmas parade 6th December... hurmph... not many SS children went this year..but for those who did... our legs were tired...BUT it was a beautiful night where all the churches in Miri come together to Celebrate the Birth of Our Lord Jesus..

Then the psalm 23 retreat ... remember the hanger? Can you still remember how to recite psalm 23??

Hahaha... those fun-filled moments when we started on our psalm 23 journey at Taman Selera..
The 66 books of the bible and their groupings....the Ten Commandments and Annabel's 汤圆... Personally i have never tasted such delicious 汤圆 before... Yummy... Thanks Annabel..
and remember how God answered our prayers?? He has indeed given us a day of sunshine for us to have our water games on the last day of our retreat. Thank you Lord Jesus.
Yummy... remember how to cook the above food? And it was Annabel's birthday too on 23th Dec.. wow!!!

And last of all, thank you Lord for the wonderful relationship that we had with the youth leaders. They were indeed kind and encouraging in all the activities.

This new year has brought many new changes to the Sunday School Ministry..

First we have an additional group for our our praise and worship..they are the i-youth group. Yeah!!!

This is the Primary 5 & 6, they were on a party quest..Putting their heads together to work out the answers before going on to the next station for their clue. Joshua and Linley are good leaders. They are considerate and gentle in leading the group.
The first group to complete the PQ was Linley's group, 2nd place is Joshua's group. Well done!!!

Parents if you are reading this, Redemption Sunday is a day where you child(ren) gets to exchange their bonus points for gifts... it works just like the BonusLink system. To qualify for points, the children are encourage to be interactive and responsive to their teachers, classmates and friends. Neat and tidy homework are a bonus. Puntuality is a character and if you are an early bird ie arriving by 8.15am you collect 100points, and b4 8.30am, 50points. The objective is to merit the children for their good character.

Ever Wonder Who St. Valentine Was? Or why so many people get all mushy around the second week of February? Here's a brief synopsis:

St. Valentine was actually two people (that weren't romantically involved) who were martyred on the same day (c. 270). Feasts commemorating them were celebrated on February 14. One was a priest and physician who died in Rome during the persecution of Christians by Claudius II Grothicus. The other was the bishop at Terni, Italy who was also martyred in Rome. Both have been buried at different places along the Flaminian Way.

So why do people send "valentines" or "love-tokens" to one another on that day? The origin of that tradition is not thought to have any connection with the saint's day. Rather it comes from an early European belief that the second week of February was when birds began to mate. Christmas Parade 22Dec 2007..a night to remember

on the 22nd Dec morning itself.....the crew.... those handy-men..we need the frame work...
Ya.... praise the Lord we managed to get ready for the procession by 5pm. The service was at 6pm. Hahahah we rushed home for a quick shower and off we go again. But the time spent building and decorating was worth it. I could see a deep sense of fellowship and unity within this group. The youth and the Primary 6 were there to give a helping hand. Yeah... the team is a strong one...

This was supposed to be the master-piece of the whole event--- CANDY CANE.. but it was way TOO HUGE to mount onto the lorry....

The puppet stage was decorated by them... hahaha.. great girls!!!

The reason for Christmas... US!!

Hello angels...

Tomorrow night is a big event for our church, Grace Methodist Church. As most of you know, we are putting up a puppet show, singing Christmas carols and distributing candy canes and tracts while we parade round the Miri City with other churches.

There will definitely be a lot of people coming to witness the parade. I sincerely urge all of you who are taking part in the caroling, acting, "angel-ing" to be good witnesses for our Lord, for Christmas is after all a celebration of His Birth.!!!

Well, that's for saturday. On 25th Dec, Christmas day itself, the youth and the 'angels' will be presenting 3 skits/mini dramas to testify for the Lord. Pray that through the simple skits, people will be drawn closer to the Lord.

Remember, we are the reason for Christmas....

Many many apologies for not updating this blog again, dearly beloved treasures from the Lord.

Hmmm... let me see... what shall I put here this wonderful monday morning?

Erm... how about some pictures from your last retreat?? Would you like that? Sure??
Ok, do wait for the slides to load....(p/s it has been 2 hrs since uploading to the slide... sorry but will try to upload more..)

Wow!!! what a blast!! As for me, I am LOOKING FORWARD to our next retreat in October!!!!

I've also burned all the pictures and video clips into cds. You can have them in two weeks time.

Two (2) things touched my heart:-
01.07.07 On this very meaningful date, the P5&6 almost all of them (except 4) committed their lives to the Lord, to accept Him as their Lord and personal Saviour. Praise the Lord for these wonderful children. Yeah!!! That's right, on this very day, you are re-born into the Kingdom of Our Heavenly Father.

15.07.07 Again the Power of the Lord was strong this morning, as the children for the first time bowed their heads in silence and prayed. Yeap!!! this is not just another other ordinary prayer... they were praying in specifics... I could feel the power of the Lord on them, comforting them, assuring them.

O Lord I pray for all these children that they will yearn to hear and read your Words, yearn to talk to You daily. I praise you Lord for their sincerity in their prayers yesterday. I pray that You will continue to watch over them, protect them from undesirable influences and keep them safe.. Preserve them for Your Kingdom Lord.
Bless them and their families. Amen.

Laugh break - What is love?
A group of children were asked the question "What is love?" Here are some of their replies. Which do you think were the best ones?

Question. What is love?

Answers.

"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne, and they go out and smell each other." Karl (age 5).

"Love is when you tell a boy you like his shirt, and then he wears it every day." Noelle (7).

"Love is when you go out and give someone most of your French fries, without making them give you any of theirs." Chrissy (6).
(There is a lot of truth in that because if you love someone, that means you want the very best for them. You want good things to happen to them, even more than you want good things to happen to yourself. So if you give someone most of your French fries, without asking for anything in return, that is an expression of your love).

"Love is when mummy gives daddy the best part of the chicken." Elaine (5).
(Another expression of love. 'Mummy' is putting 'Daddy's' needs before her own. Jesus told us to love others as we love ourselves. Everyone loves themselves. Do you hit yourself, lie to yourself, or steal from yourself? No, of course not! You all treat yourselves well. If you are thirsty, do you say "Oh I can't be bothered giving you a drink right now" ? No, you just give yourself a drink. In the same way that we are good to ourselves, we should be just as good to others).

"Love is when mummy sees daddy all smelly and sweaty, and still says he is handsomer than Brad Pitt." Chris (7).

Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and talk instead. My mummy and daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss." Emily (8).

If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend you hate." Nikka (6).
(A good answer. It is easy to be nice to people who are being nice to you, but very hard to be nice to those who are being nasty to you. But Jesus told us to "Love your enemies." Jesus wants us to be nice to everyone, even to those who are not nice back to us).

"There are two kinds of love, our love and God's love. But God made them both." Jenny (8).
(I think his is probably the best answer. The difference between human love and God's love is that human love is often conditional on the other person loving us back, whereas God's love is unconditional. Suppose you like someone, so start being good to them. If they are nice to you in return, you will carry on being nice to them - wonderful. But if that person is nasty to you in return, do you carry on being nice to them? Probably not. You probably won't want anything to do with that person anymore, or you may even start being nasty to them yourself. God's love is not like that. God's love is unconditional. He loves us because "God is love." He loves us even if we are nasty to others, Ignore Him, or even reject Him. These things all make God sad, but there is nothing anyone could possibly do that would ever make Him stop loving them. He always desires the very best for us).

THE MONKEY AND THE DOLPHIN
One day long ago, some sailors set out to sea in their sailing ship. One of them brought his pet monkey along for the long journey.

When they were far out at sea, a terrible storm overturned their ship. Everyone fell into the sea, and the monkey was sure that he would drown. Suddenly a dolphin appeared and picked him up.

Well, in all things, do it according to the Lord's will; do not rush and be a kepo and make decisions based on your own understanding.

Proverbs 3:5 & 6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, do not rely on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.

Yeah! Trust in the Lord and He will guide you. I am thinking of a surprise for you all (P5&6). Look out!

LEFT BEHIND (Kids) the series

The series Left Behind has a great story about three boys named Judd, Ryan and Lionel and a girl named Vicki.

The story goes like this...These people lost thier families in the rapture which was foretold in the Bible. They all lost their families during the school holidays. Thery we all non-christians until they met a pastor named Bruce Barnes from a church.

Judd's family wre cchristians but he wasn't. The four children who called themselves the young tribulation force, lived together after the rapture.

Bruce, as he was normally called teaches them in a church about God's Word and mostly about what God has planned for us in the future especially in the last three books of the Bible.

when school starts, Vicki says that there is no use in going to school because they will not be learning anything but she still goes.

The story is mostly about God, the Bible and how the children Judd, Vicki, Ryan and Lionel came to know God and spread the Word of God.
